Married to My Camera
Like most professional photographers taking pictures for me began as a hobby and soon became an obsession. My journey began aged fifteen with my grandfather’s old single lens reflex camera. I then went on to study for a degree in photography at the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham where I graduated with a first class honours degree in 1999. My professional career began as a fashion and portrait photographer with highlights including exhibitions at Somerset House and the Hyeres Festival and editorial work published in The Independent and i-D Magazine. In 2003-04 I was privileged to be awarded a year long residency at Fabrica, Benetton’s Research Centre in Italy.
Now specialising as a wedding photographer, I bring my longstanding love of documentary photography to bear witness to all the special moments of my clients’ wedding day. My journalistic approach to wedding photography means that I don’t poses endless group photos and cheesy portraits but prefer to blend into the background and record the day as it unfolds naturally in front of my lens. I like to get to know my couples really well before the day so that they have confidence in me and can enjoy their wedding day to the full. I meet my couples twice before the day, including a visit to the wedding venue, and love doing engagement shoots.
Unlike other photographers I offer my clients three shooting styles to suit all kinds of weddings. The Classic, Contemporary and Vintage styles make it possible for couples to tailor their photography with me to suit the look and feel of their wedding day. I also believe strongly that photographic coverage of the wedding day doesn’t have to end with the first dance. For those couples that want their photographs to tell the whole story of their day I offer up to twelve hours of uninterrupted coverage. I love shooting all day. The range of emotions, from the nerves and eager anticipation of the bride’s preparation to the emotion of the ceremony and speeches and everyone letting their hair down in the evening, there really is nothing else like it.
I’m based in Guildford and shoot the majority of my weddings in Surrey, Hampshire and the South East but love travelling further for destination weddings whenever I get the opportunity.
